The Return of Prophet Jesus (Isa) at the End of Times: A Universal Prophecy

Among the most fascinating prophecies in Islamic tradition is the return of Prophet Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him) near the end of times. Unlike other figures, the story of Jesus’ return is not only found in Islam but also in Christianity and other belief systems, making it a universal prophecy that resonates with billions of people worldwide.

This event is described as one of the major signs of the Hour and carries profound spiritual, moral, and social lessons for humanity.

In Islam, Jesus (known as Isa ibn Maryam) is one of the greatest prophets of God. He was born miraculously to the Virgin Mary (Maryam) and performed many miracles by God’s permission. Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified but rather raised up by God, and that he will return before the Day of Judgment to restore justice and truth.

This belief connects Islam with Christian traditions, where the Second Coming of Christ also represents a time of justice and divine intervention.

Prophetic narrations describe that Jesus will descend during a period of great turmoil:

  • Humanity will face wars, injustice, and widespread deception.
  • The Antichrist (Al-Masih ad-Dajjal) will appear, spreading lies and claiming divinity.
  • The world will be filled with oppression and instability.

It is in this dark period that Jesus will descend from the heavens, bringing hope and truth back to humanity.

When Jesus returns, his mission will not be to establish a new religion but to restore the true message of God. His tasks include:

  1. Defeating the Antichrist – The greatest deceiver in history, who will mislead many people, will be killed by Jesus near the city of Ludd (in present-day Palestine).
  2. Establishing Justice – He will abolish oppression, promote fairness, and restore peace in society.
  3. Uniting Humanity – His return will highlight the common message of all prophets: worship of the One God, compassion, and morality.
  4. Ending Falsehood – All lies, deceptions, and distortions of faith will be exposed under his leadership.

After the defeat of the Antichrist, Jesus will lead humanity into an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity:

People will live without fear, oppression, or corruption.

Wealth will be abundant, but materialism will no longer dominate people’s lives.

Spiritual values will flourish, and justice will prevail.

This golden age will be a reminder that truth always overcomes falsehood, no matter how dark times may seem.

The return of Jesus is not only a story about the future; it is also a message for the present:

Hope in Times of Crisis – Even in the darkest periods, divine justice will prevail.

Unity of Faiths – The shared belief in Jesus’ return highlights the spiritual connection between Islam and Christianity.

Rejecting Falsehood – The prophecy warns against blindly following false leaders, ideologies, or material temptations.

Living with Integrity – By strengthening faith and moral values today, people prepare themselves for trials tomorrow.

The prophecy of the return of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) is one of the most powerful and inspiring narratives about the end of times. It is not merely about a distant future event, but a timeless lesson about truth, faith, and justice.

Whether we live to witness this event or not, the story encourages us to remain steadfast, pursue righteousness, and trust that divine justice will ultimately prevail.
